Invisalign or…braces?

choosing between invisalign or braces

Are you an adult that wants to straighten your teeth? Maybe you have a child that you think needs braces. Have you been putting off seeing your dentist about these issues because of the common fear of metal braces? If you answered yes to any of these, there is an alternative and less scary option; The Invisalign clear braces.

Invisalign are not like traditional braces because they are not made of metal. Instead, they are made of thermoplastic material. They are clear aligners that have been custom made to fit your teeth. Like traditional braces, they move your teeth a little bit at a time. Adults and teenagers are especially concerned about the way they look so they see the metal as being unattractive and embarrassing. Traditional metal braces can also cause discomfort and the first days even some pain. These clear braces do not do this because they do not cause irritation and the process is pain free and does not require monthly tightening.

To find out if you are a good candidate for clear braces, your dentist will take a bite impression to see if the treatment would be an effective one. Not every case is suited for Invisalign braces as a solution. If you do qualify, you will be fitted will aligners and will have to see your dentist about one time per six weeks to assess your progress. The clear aligners also have to be replaced every two weeks.

The other benefit of Invisalign is that they are removable. You can take them out when you eat, drink, floss, and brush your teeth. They should be worn for twenty to twenty-two hours each day though.

The price and time it will take for you to straighten your teeth depends on your doctors assessment. Every patient has a case that is different and unique. Invisalign are a convenient option for those who want to correct the alignment of their teeth. See your dentist with any questions and concerns because they are the only people that can tell you if they will work for you or not.
